Only Fourteen

I'd really like to post up interesting/amusing pictures from Bratislava for us to laugh at and do some belated, lengthy rambling debrief on the trip but I guess everyone's gotten enough of that and we all just know it was a wonderfully enriching experience. 8D

Anyway I have no time to do so since I'm flying to Japan in a few hours so I shall just publish this... newspaper report about the Comm Meeting on Monday.

(Pictures on Denise's blog. We had to have fun before we died from the boredom of repeatedly pouring glue on hairpins. Singing and whatnot, but still...)

Only Fourteen.

Monday, 15 December 2008

It was an awfully pathetic and pitiful sight that greeted the fourteen Comm Members who lugged themselves to school at the wee hours of 8am this gloomy morning.

The initial 20~30 strong committee had been reduced to such minute proportions that the fourteen students had to work their guts out to complete the CCA fair preparations. The president, Shinny, had confirmed she had informed every committee member of the meeting, and to pass down the message to their undercharges to come as well, but alas, half of the committee was absent anyway.

Burning their fingers with swimming globs of elephant glue, painstakingly cutting tiny pieces of felt and foam, meticulously squeezing out the last of draining glitter glue from tubes onto slim sticks of hairpins, bending over the banner to touch up every inch, burning holes in their pockets to purchase the necessary items for preparation (around $70 in total) and staying in school for a gruelling 8 hours, the small number finished posters, putting up the banner, and doing the 400+ souvenirs in the span of today.

Efficiency would have been greatly increased if there hadn't been so few people, but sadly, the scene of 30 students working diligently wasn't one these 14 Comm Members faced.

It is true that most of the absentees had real excuses as to why they could not make it, but how good were those excuses, you wonder? How much truth did they hold? We cannot, and will never know.

These fourteen members consisted of, in no particular order:
Sec3s: Leh Lin,
Hazel,
Joey,
Ying Tong,
Angeline,
Deborah,
Shinny Woo
(who could only come for half an hour in the morning)

Sec 2s: Celeste,
Clara,
(who came despite having to go overseas later in the afternoon)
Denise,
Jeanette,
Amanda Chai,
Lynette,
Sarah

These 14 students completed what the whole choir would have done as a whole, like the previous years. Sadly, an extra choir practice was not allowed to be held, and the deadline for the preparations is this Friday, 19th December 08, so there was little that could have been changed.

There will be a $2 fine for every comm member who did not have a proper excuse for their absence.

It was truly a lamentable scene to have surveyed, and it is with sincere hope that this would never happen again.
