REMINDERS FOR TOMORO'S CCA PREP!

Hello choir!
it's been a while since we updated so since activities are starting we will start posting pictures updates or reminders as often as possible! so do take a look and visit the blog periodically:D

for tomoro, we will have
sop1s and alto2s doing the banner
sop2s and alto1s doing the souvenirs.
we drew lots so its a fair allocation!
we hope as many as possible can make it unless you have very valid reasons like you are overseas or some prior commitments.

so this is what you need to bring:
--> 1 day's worth of newspapers each. this is so that we can line the floor and do the banner on the newpapers so we will not make a mess on the floor and also the newspaper will harden the banner when it dries. this is just a guideline! but if you are being fetched it would be nice if you could do us a favour and bring along more newspapers(: haha.
--> scissors. we need to do cutting tomoro. so please, do bring your scissors unless you have a better idea of how we can cut ribbons.
-->markers. they can be of any colour(:
-->paint brushes. to paint the banner! so there isnt a need to bring those super thin brushes we use to paint our art pieces. prefably bigger thicker brushes!
--->a plastic container or two each if you can. those transparent disposable microwavable ones like when we buy takeaway noodles soup? yeah. used ones are fine. as long as they are dry! cos we need to use them as palettes for the paint. we're not painting out of the cans:)

so yeap that should be all. bring water to drink! see you tomoro 9.30 at the canteen! :D sleep well.

Only Fourteen

I'd really like to post up interesting/amusing pictures from Bratislava for us to laugh at and do some belated, lengthy rambling debrief on the trip but I guess everyone's gotten enough of that and we all just know it was a wonderfully enriching experience. 8D

Anyway I have no time to do so since I'm flying to Japan in a few hours so I shall just publish this... newspaper report about the Comm Meeting on Monday.

(Pictures on Denise's blog. We had to have fun before we died from the boredom of repeatedly pouring glue on hairpins. Singing and whatnot, but still...)

Only Fourteen.

Monday, 15 December 2008

It was an awfully pathetic and pitiful sight that greeted the fourteen Comm Members who lugged themselves to school at the wee hours of 8am this gloomy morning.

The initial 20~30 strong committee had been reduced to such minute proportions that the fourteen students had to work their guts out to complete the CCA fair preparations. The president, Shinny, had confirmed she had informed every committee member of the meeting, and to pass down the message to their undercharges to come as well, but alas, half of the committee was absent anyway.

Burning their fingers with swimming globs of elephant glue, painstakingly cutting tiny pieces of felt and foam, meticulously squeezing out the last of draining glitter glue from tubes onto slim sticks of hairpins, bending over the banner to touch up every inch, burning holes in their pockets to purchase the necessary items for preparation (around $70 in total) and staying in school for a gruelling 8 hours, the small number finished posters, putting up the banner, and doing the 400+ souvenirs in the span of today.

Efficiency would have been greatly increased if there hadn't been so few people, but sadly, the scene of 30 students working diligently wasn't one these 14 Comm Members faced.

It is true that most of the absentees had real excuses as to why they could not make it, but how good were those excuses, you wonder? How much truth did they hold? We cannot, and will never know.

These fourteen members consisted of, in no particular order:
Sec3s: Leh Lin,
Hazel,
Joey,
Ying Tong,
Angeline,
Deborah,
Shinny Woo
(who could only come for half an hour in the morning)

Sec 2s: Celeste,
Clara,
(who came despite having to go overseas later in the afternoon)
Denise,
Jeanette,
Amanda Chai,
Lynette,
Sarah

These 14 students completed what the whole choir would have done as a whole, like the previous years. Sadly, an extra choir practice was not allowed to be held, and the deadline for the preparations is this Friday, 19th December 08, so there was little that could have been changed.

There will be a $2 fine for every comm member who did not have a proper excuse for their absence.

It was truly a lamentable scene to have surveyed, and it is with sincere hope that this would never happen again.

VERY LAST MINUTE REMINDERS AND TIPS! =D

Hello dear dear dear choir! i wonder if anyone of you will read this, but i shall post anyway! =D

I'm sure after what we've gone through so far, all of you in SN CHOIR would want to make this a very fruitful trip, to fully enjoy it and come back with a high gold (98% or something! =D) yep! so we mustn't let ourselves down last minute! REMEMBER, ST NICKS WILL ALWAYS RISE TO THE OCCASION, AND 'WHEN WE'RE AT OUR BEST, NO ONE EVEN COMES NEAR' (quoted from Mrs Goh) and yea! we must prove to ourselves what we really are, and achieve the gold that rightfully belongs to us, SO JIAYOU DEAR CHOIR! WE KNOW THAT WE CAN DO IT AND WE WILL! =D

hehe, and now the tips and reminders;

hahaha, i know you all are very excited and everything about the trip (and so am i! hahaha! I LOVE THE VITAMIN C! DRINK IT IN A CLEAR CUP OK! ^^) BUT REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR NOISE LEVEL DOWN! At Vienna and Bratislava, we won't only be representing St Nicks, we will also be representing Singapore, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF YOUR VOLUME DEAR CHOIR! we all don't want Miss Lim to scold us in front of everyone in the airport or in public right? and also, we need to PROTECT OUR VOICES and SAVE OUR ENERGY!(i suddenly got reminded of the law of conservation of energy, but that's very far off and irrelavant ._.) we have to only sing out loud and do our best and maximise the potential of our voice on the competition itself, so before that, DO NOT SHOUT/SCREAM/YELL/YELP/TALK LOUDLY OK? =D

and another thing is that, PLEASE ALWAYS KEEP YOUR PASSPORT AND ALL MONEY BY YOUR SIDE! and of course, you must SPLIT YOUR MONEY AND KEEP THEM IN DIFFERENT COMPARTMENTS! so that if you so unfortunately lose your money (choy choy), you will still have money left to eat with and shop with! =D haha, i do personally recommend for you to split your money in terms of how much you'll spend in one day, so just carry the amount you need for a day (around 30 euros or so?) in somewhere convenient, and the rest you keep in a waist pouch inside your winter coat or something, cause the European countries are fairly infamous for their professional pick pockets, so its better to keep the bulk of your money in somewhere you can feel, and hard to be pickpocketed =D haha, and very very very importantly, KEEP YOUR PASSPORT WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES (note the darker orange? HEHE! ^^) In a foreign country, your passport is the BEST AND ONLY FORM OF IDENTIFICATION YOU HAVE, without it, people can just treat you as some illegal immigrant, so yea, YOU MUST ALWAYS ALWATS KEEP YOUR PASSPORT WITH YOU, AND NOT LEAVE IT SOMEWHERE WHERE YOU'LL EASILY FORGET AND LEAVE IT BEHIND! please try not to take it out and play with it while travelling, cause you may just drop it without knowing, so be mindful of that ok? =D

Also, in hotels, please DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR WITHOUT KNOWING WHO'S OUTSIDE! make sure that you know who the person is before opening the door (or look through the peep hole before opening, and chain on the thingie on the door before opening if theres no peep hole), EVEN IF YOU KNOW ITS YOUR FRIEND, ITS STILL BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY! for all you know, your friend might be threatened outside to make you open the door ._. and DON'T EVER LEAVE YOUR DOOR OPEN WHEN YOU ALL ARE GOING IN/GOING OUT (e.g using your luggage to stop the door from closing for a while, while you all check out the hotel room or something). ALWAYS LUG IN ALL YOUR LUGGAGE, CLOSE THE DOOR, BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE! this was once reported on the news, when 2 air stewardess were raped in some country because the 2 rapist chionged into their room while they used the luggage to stop the door from closing, and it was for only less than a minute my dears, ._. so always be careful, cause we really have no idea how the culture and security is like there, take care ok! and of course DO NOT DISCLOSE WHICH ROOM YOU'RE IN IN PUBLIC, if you have to, just whisper, you dont want to have some random person just coming and knocking on your door in the middle of the night right ._. you all need your sleep! =D so yea! take note ok!

and before i forget, Mr Lim reminds you all NOT TO TAKE ANYTHING OUT OF THE MINI BAR IN THE HOTEL ROOM! the things provided in the mini bar are NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR STAY PACKAGE! so if you take, you have to PAY for it! and the prices are horrendous, it can be like 5 euros for a bottle of mineral water (which is around SGD$10._.) so do not waste your money like this ok! if you ever need to get something, try to borrow from your friends first, or if you really cant get it, inform your group leaders, ok? =D save your money for shopping and eating! =D

and MOST IMPORTANTLY, ALWAYS STICK TO YOUR ROOM MATE LIKE SUPER GLUE! and STICK TO YOUR GROUPS LIKE VELCRO AT ALL TIMES! always remember that we're all now in a foreign country, and if we get lost, IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND OUR WAY BACK! cause for one, we neither speak fluent German, Slovak, Czech, or Russian, so the people there WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE HEADS AND TAILS OF WHAT WE'RE SPEAKING! and also, since even your group leaders and teachers do not know the place well, you can just call us and say "um, i'm in front of a bakchormee stall with a fire station beside it along Tiggerisorange street" but we won't be able to find you, cause WE WON'T KNOW WHERE IS TIGGERISORANGE STREET OR EVEN IF THERE WAS REALLY A BAKCHORMEE STALL (which may most probably be a shop selling spaghetti with extra shredded meat)! so always stick close to your group mates ok! =D

also, you all must TAKE NOTE OF THE TIME AND VENUE! Remember, we're constantly travelling in a foreign country, so if you miss the meet up place and time, and the bus goes off, you may not be able to find us again! cause for one, you don't know the address of our next destination (or if you're so blur, you won't even know where's the next destination!) so remember to WEAR A WATCH AND ALWAYS LOOK AT IT! and those of you with ipods and mp3s, please take them off for a moment when your teachers, tour guides or leaders are making announcements! do not always depend on your friends to repeat the message given, for they may just miss out some part or be daydreaming/not listening as well! you all must be independent, and be responsible for your own safety and well being ok? we don't want to see anyone missing or hurt and i'm sure you all don't too, so always always LISTEN OUT FOR INSTRUCTIONS OK!

yep! that's all for the nagging! =D hahaha! remember its 10.30pm TONIGHT AT THE EMIRATES COUNTER (on the far left) AT CHANGI AIRPORT TERMINAL 1 OK! see you all there! =D bring enough jackets and cardigans in your hand luggage my dears, as well as your gloves, scarf, winter hat, and lip balm! TAKE GOOD CARE AND SEE YOU!^^

oh! and please take one vitamin C tablet right after you read this =D (take it in a transparent cup cause then you can see it fizz out pretty orange bubbles! =D and you can try putting it in warm water if you want, it will squirt out like a mini fountain! hahah! though i still prefer drinking it cold =D whee! i love vitamin C! ) TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH TOO OK! ^^ LOVE YA CHOIR! <3

- <3 shinny!

[edit: OH AND I ALMOST FORGOT, PLEASE CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK AND TRIPLE CHECK AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE YOUR CHOIR UNIFORM, BLACK COURT SHOES AND BLACK STOCKINGS IN YOUR LUGGAGE MY DEARS! we won't be able to fedex it over if you forget to bring it or something! =O!]

***[[EDIT2: and choir, those of you who have bought long johns that cover up till the neck, as a last minute resort, please bring along a BLACK TEE SHIRT to wear over it (as the neck line of the choir uniform is black) so as to make it not-so-obvious. also, please bring along safety pins to pin down your long johns as much as possible so that they dont peep out much from your uniform ok? THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, SO TELL AS MANY CHOIR PEOPLE AS YOU CAN ONCE YOU READ THIS! thanks very much! =D ]]

today is the day!

hey choir.

today we will embark on a journey
to bratislava,
to compete,
to attain a good result,
most of all
to ENJOY.

I'm sure all of you really want to enjoy this trip.
So, i really hope we can all make this work.
In order for this to be a happy trip,
we have to be very disciplined.
And that means listening to our group leaders,
listening to the teachers
and of course
MS LIM.

choir,
we are representing
our school and singapore
therefore we have to make a strong and good impression.
we are like ambassadors.
so just be careful.

1) Watch your behavior.

    Beware of noise level.
(there was feedback that on saturday, we were VERY NOISY. every time we were asked to       move, there would be this huge mumuring which would slowly rise up to a high volume)
YES. so just be more CONSCIOUS of EVERYTHING.
    UNLESS you
    want to BE embarrassed;
    WANT to embarrass the choir;
or just simply LOVE to hear complaints about us.
    IF NOT,
Then when you are asked to move, just do it quietly without talking....
(especially if you see that the teachers or leaders are very stressed out trying to organise          things.)

2) Be cooperative

Just listen out for instructions and follow them and everything will be fine!

3) Do Not Get Too Excited

We know its VERY exciting to be going on this trip to travel with our beloved friends.
BUT! in order to be disciplined, we have to keep our excitement under control.
so please dont like exclaim at stuff that catch your eye and all that.
     ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS:

     KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELF!
WE WILL NOT HESITATE TO LASH OUT AT THOSE WHO SIMPLY CANNOT COOPERATE AND CHOOSE TO BEHAVE IN A WAY THEY DEEM FIT.

so lets not make this an  UNPLEASANT  trip[:

okay i guess that's about all that we need to help us enjoy this unique experience.
please bear all this in mind at ALL TIMES
THANKYOU!

see you tonight!
:D
